Bełchatów Power Station
Bełchatów Power Station is a Polish coal-fired power plant, which is the largest of its kind on the European continent in terms of total output. Globally, it is the fifth largest coal-fired power plant worldwide.
Brown coal is used as fuel, which is mined right in the adjacent mine. This is very convenient in terms of logistics, because there is no need to transport coal far and expensively.
However, carbon dioxide emissions are a big problem in the case of such a large power plant burning brown coal. Despite the modernization of the blocks and the decommissioning of the oldest ones, it is still a huge scarecrow for conservationists. According to the latest agreements, the plant should cease operations in 2036 at the latest.
