ll grattacielo della Banca Intesa Sanpaolo, progettato dall’Arch. Renzo Piano, ha un’altezza di circa 170 m. Il progetto delle strutture è firmato dall’Ing. F. Ossola e dalla Società Expedition Engineering di Londra. Si sviluppa su sei piani interrati e trentotto piani fuori terra. Ha una funzione parte privata per la Banca, destinata ad uffici e servizi, e parte aperta al pubblico. Tra le zone aperte al pubblico e che caratterizzano anche la costruzione vi sono l’auditorium, il ristorante panoramico, la serra nella parte alta dell’edificio. L’edificio è anche innovativo dal punto di vista bio – energetico. Il sistema strutturale portante è costituito da sei megacolonne in struttura mista acciaio calcestruzzo. Oltre al core interno in cemento armato che assolve alla funzione non solo portante ma anche di nucleo servizi, ascensori e di controvento strutturale. La presenza dell’auditorium da livello L2 a livello L6 privo di pilastri al suo interno, ha comportato a necessità di prevedere una mega- struttura di trasferimento in acciaio tra i livelli 6 e 7 per convogliare i carichi dei 30 piani sovrastanti alle megacolonne.
