Although not armed for combat, Montford Point incorporates large mooring fenders, a vehicle transfer ramp, and up to three LCAC lanes to support its core equipment transfer requirements. The hull and structure were constructed by the National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO) in San Diego, California, with the keel laid in January 2012 and delivery to the U.S. Navy occurring in May 2013.
