The Armament of SMS Wettin
Four 24 cm Main Guns
The main battery consisted of four 24 cm SK L/40 guns mounted in two twin turrets. One turret was positioned at the bow and the other at the stern, both on the ship’s centerline. This arrangement allowed the main guns to fire effectively to either side and provided a conventional broadside configuration.
The 24 cm weapons were powerful by the standards of the late 1890s, but their relatively modest caliber would become one of the most obvious signs of the ship’s eventual obsolescence. Service With the Active Fleet

These activities were central to the development of the Imperial German Navy because the fleet needed not only modern ships but also officers and crews capable of operating those ships together.

The Arrival of the Dreadnought
The technological position of Wettin changed dramatically after the appearance of HMS Dreadnought in 1906.
